December News

Wow what a night that was! Our beautiful dancers entertained a full house at the Hutton and Shenfield Choral Society’s Christmas Concert  at the Brentwood Centre yesterday. Dancing to the Aurelian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tim Hooper, dancing members across all categories showcased our work to a full house audience with extracts from The Nutcracker.

We danced two separate blocks with the Russian dance, followed by Arabian and the Sugar Plum Fairy. It was a magical experience with a “Celeste” having been sourced especially for the occasion. In the second half the Spanish dance was followed by the Chinese dance with the Merlitons finishing our section. To cheers and applause our Artistic Director Annette Potter was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers by Megan Mclatchie our Dancers’ representative at the end. 2014-12-20 19.14.47 (640x430)

These performances bring our Company to the notice of a huge audience and is wonderful publicity for our forthcoming show. A lot of extra work was involved for the Wardrobe Mistress, Ann Starling and her team but the beautiful tableau created as a backdrop to the dancing added a really special dimension to the performance. It is a long and tiring day with an early start for some; a lot of preparation was needed to the floor to make it safe, particularly for the pointe dancers. There has been many positive comments, particularly from our patron Christopher Marney, who was a surprise visitor; so we hope that the hard work put in by the few will benefit the many.

During the day, which also got off to a very bad start for some, with a dramatic breakdown on the A12, our dancers participated in  “The Grand Jeté Challenge.” Many of you will remember Jess Minty who has not only taken Company Classes but taught at “Let’s Make a Ballet”. Jess has been diagnosed with a rare cancer and issued the challenge to raise funds for the charity. Well done to everyone who took part and if anyone wishes to donate there will be information on our Facebook page.

With more positive news, another one of our guest teachers at Company Class and Let’s Make, former dancing member Sarah Molina has just had a little boy, Marco Daniel. Congratulations Sarah.

Senior dancing members Scarlett Mann and April Goulding have both told us that they have been lucky enough to be accepted for a place at the English National Ballet School at their Spring coaching course in London. April will also be attending the Wells Ballet Christmas Masterclass with Francesca Filpi in the De Valois Studio at the Royal Opera House. We look forward to hearing all about it.
