Congratulations to Gillian Toogood-Former Artistic Director

Congratulations to our former Artistic Director, Gillian Toogood, who has who has gained her Cecchetti Fellowship.

Gillian began her professional career by joining the Malmo State Ballet, subsequently spending six years with the Royal Swedish Ballet, where she worked with, amongst others, Erik Bruhn and Sir Kenneth Macmillan. During this time Gillian toured extensively, including performing at the Bolshoi, and dancing many major classical roles.

Gillian returned home to join London City Ballet as a soloist.

After obtaining her teaching qualifications and since her professional retirement she has been a regular member of the faculty for the Cecchetti Summer School for Young Dancers, a guest teacher for the Cecchetti Associates and choreographed and taught the Cecchetti Scholars. In September 2010 she became chairman of the Cecchetti Scholars Sub Committee.

In 1992 Gillian returned to Chelmsford to choreograph for the Chelmsford Ballet Company and in 1999 became Artistic Director. After 11 years and many successful productions Gillian retired from the post. She was invited to become an honorary member of the company and still returns regularly to teach the company class.

Gillian is currently teaching in Aylesbury.
