Welcome to The Chelmsford Ballet Company

‘Our aim is to inspire and progress enthusiastic dancers in a safe, friendly and open environment with a professional approach, whilst having fun along the way’

Our Patrons are Doreen Wells, Marchioness of Londonderry and Christopher Marney.

Our own Artistic Director is Annette Potter

Who we are….

We are an amateur company whose aim is to set professional standards for all our work. We involve professionals in our productions, courses, other teaching and workshop opportunities.

We are based in Chelmsford, however we are not an extension of any dance school and dancers are auditioned via a panel of professionals from a dance background.  We are a not for profit organisation, whose dedicated team are all volunteers.

 Our aim is to .....

Inspire interest in ballet giving public & private performances.  Provide professional experience where possible and training in ballet, in addition to regular dance classes.

 What we do .....

We stage major productions annually at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford.  The Company has a large repertoire:

The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Napoli, Pineapple Poll, Petroushka, La Boutique Fantasque, La Fille Mal Gardée, Tales from Beatrix Potter, Les Sylphides, Coppelia & Cinderella.

We have also incorporated Modern dance as the following items were specially commissioned for the Company:  The Great Gatsby, Forty Years On (a celebration of 40 years of the Ballet Company).  Monochrome Moves (an insight into silent movies).  In 1999 we celebrated our Golden Jubilee with a triple bill which included Beat Bop Boogie (a fun look back over the last 50 years).  In 2009 our Diamond Jubilee Production was The Sleeping Beauty. In 2017 & 2018 we  had two specially commissioned ballets, Alice’s Adventures followed by Snow Queen.  The Chelmsford Ballet Company celebrated its 70th year in 2019 looking back over the company’s history since 1949 with a performance of Midsummer Nights Dream.
